Disney’s Exclusive Movies

Posted by on Feb 26, 2010 in home stories | 4 comments

Not only Americans were enamored by Mickey Mouse when he first appeared on the big screen. To kids and us kids at heart around the world, the handsome mouse acquired a soft spot as well, simply put; “we all love the mouse.”  It was not only Mickey but other Disney characters too.  Generation after generation has a favorite Disney movie to share. For one it would be Snow White or The Little Mermaid yet for another it could be Toy Story or Finding Nemo.

Non-animated classic Disney movies are not to be forgotten. Maybe you’ve heard your dad tell the story of Condorman, he might not be the hero like Batman and Superman are but he has his share of fame, his own condormobile and damsels in distress to rescue ala 007. Now, you can watch Condorman with your dad as it was made available exclusively for members of the Disney Movie Club in May 2008. See the misadventures of Condorman as told by your dad in his stories.

There are also many rare/exclusive and classic Disney movies offered by the the Disney Movie Club, an online community for fans, kids and adults alike. Reliving the magic we had and shared by all those movies we watched as kids is now easier…(they are delivered right to one’s doorstep!) Recently released movies like Wall-E, Bolt, are listed, as are old favorites such as  Tigger’s Movies, Ducktales the Movie, Stub, A Mom for Christmas ( one that I won’t watch) and the 1958 hit, Tonka.  A majority of both the classic and newer Disney films are in their catalogue which one can browse alphabetically or categorically.

Joining the Disney Movie Club is easy, just register at their website and create an account. You can already place your initial order afterwards. (The website includes other means of registration and explains all the terms and “commitment” for being a member.) Shipping is free on certain conditions! Also, about once a month, you will be sent offers that would definitely remind you of old time favorite movies. If you want to get this offer then a simple yes will do…

Some of the members are Disney movie collectors and if you are contemplating on building your own collection of your beloved Disney films, this is the best  opportunity for that. As a Disney Movie Club member, you will get the original classic films that may not be in the market anymore. They are also great gifts. Imagine the joy your dad will have if he receives a copy of his favorite movie as a child.  Imagine your mom’s delight if she watches again the first Disney film she watched with your dad when they were still dating :D . Disney and the mouse has certainly been part of our lives and they continue to. No matter where or no matter the age, we are all connected to one another through Disney’s timeless creations.

Bazaars, gotta love 'em

bazaar books
Books are perhaps the best reason to visit a Bazaar once or twice a year. I got 10 for 5euros which would have cost seven times more when I buy them from a bookstore or when ordered online. Here are 7 of them, 2 reader digests hardbound with three books in each (Grisham and others in German), Dickens’ Oliver Twist, Kipling’s The Jungle Book, Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe, Jenkin’s A House in Flanders and a book each for the 3 kids(not in photo).

Old is gold or One man’s trash is another man’s treasure holds true in this market. There are unlimited books available, one just needs the patience to search, turning each from the heap like looking for the proverbial needle. It was all worth the picking, flipping and browsing anyway since you get to go home with books that are most of the time still looking new! (You just really need to dig that pile ;-) lol).

IMG_0687A few days after, I decided to buy some more books from Amazon. I actually planned to buy Sherlock Holmes (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle). I was curious about this famous character as the inspiration of the Manga and Anime,  Metantei Conan (Detective Conan).  I was at that time unaware of the movie :D . So this is the first book on my list, that I’d be able to watch the movie afterwards. (I find it more appealing to read the book first of all book-based movies). I included 2 Jane Austen’s and a Bronte’s along with it. Since Amazon delivers free at times, I get to avail that and paid about 25 for this lot. Well, the Bazaar books are still cheaper but it’s fine…for the book lover in me anyway.

Play time!

The kids and I used to spend our free time at this playground. I would read a book and later take photos while they enjoy the slide, and everything in the swing set.

I once wrote that boredom is not in the dictionary of Viennese children. Child-development and well-being is very much a key concern in this city. Aside from lots of cultural (arts, music, dance), and sports development programs, play is an everyday enjoyment. The city sees to it that every neighborhood has a playground. At times…more than one. In our area alone, there is a playground just a minute’s walk from the door of the building. Another is on the opposite side where we just cross the pedestrian lane (that’s where the photos were taken). Walk on the other cluster of buildings and there’d be more playgrounds, complete with slides, seesaws and swings. There’d also be a big sandbox in which contents are replaced on certain months.

DSC09076Rides (animals and vehicles) are also prolific, not just in the malls but also on the streets. Also, family fun parks have been sprouting in each district which promises really great enjoyment for the kids.

Anyway, the swing set was removed a few months back and only the sandbox along with the elephant rides were left. This saddened the kids of course, had we a yard to place such swing sets I’d make sure I’d buy them one, that with just like the photos here, a climbing wall, a rotating seat, slide, swing and bars. These are what makes playing enjoyable after all!

Kid’s creation offers just the perfect swing sets for you! They are not just safe for the children, they are made of high-quality. This means using the best wood that lasts, well sanded exterior to avoid scrapes and cuts and best of all; worth all the money spent. At the website, you can create their own design, you get to customize the set you want and view the set in every angle. With this 3D Builder, you can add or change swing set accessories while seeing price estimates as you finish your design.

Kid’s creation swing sets are delivered directly to your doorstep, no need to hire experts to install the set…everyday mom and dads can easily assemble them. And because of prioritizing quality, one can be sure of perfect holes and screws fitting in! The set comes with a step by step manual to help the ease of assembly but free phone and email assistance are also available. You might think I’m just bubbling too much about their service, right? Well, read what the other parents have to say (along with photos of their own swing sets).

By the way, the swing sets are not only for kids, they’re for the kids at heart  too! =D

Technology

tech

Hubby is a self-confessed tech geek. Computers, game consoles, mini gadgets, name it and he has it. Above photo is his work area. Two Apple monitors (for more use of his arts), a dslr, an iphone, a mini-PC and a Macbook below it (covered with paper). Guess where in our house is this corner?…too bad, in the bedroom. So it’s inevitable that when waking up, he’d go straight there and browse, check emails etc. (Sorry for the photo, I used a phone camera since I had to include the camera in the photo lol.)

True, we’ve been far into the world of technology than we were years ago. Though in my opinion, however advanced man may be, however helpful all the invented gadgets are, however technology can make anything beautiful…the work of God seen in mother nature is still the best tech that none could compare.

Thankful for technology for the convenience of recording a wonderful child’s milestone, for easily being able to transfer files and for helping reach out to friends who are million miles away.

Pink

apink

Most girls these days consider pink as their favorite color…You go out in the streets and I bet there is one you’d spot immediately dressed all in pink..shirt, pants, socks, shoes (and jacket). My daughter is one, though she wears red, blue and violet too. Don’t blame me, I am one of those moms who have been dictated by society about gender policies…that pink is for girls and blue is for boys, that Barbies are for girls and toy cars are for boys. Dressing them with the wrong colors or letting them play with toys that are supposedly not for them makes them fall out of the two categories. Below is a conversation between my kids about the subject. (Yes, I eavesdrop on them lol.)

Daughter: Why are you wearing my socks, those are light blue, you’re not supposed to wear them.

Son: Mommy said its mine coz its a size smaller than yours, she bought the wrong ones.

Daughter: Don’t you know that boys are supposed to wear darker stuff, you can wear dark blue but not light blue, and those socks even have some pink on it.

I continued playing deaf, my daughter said a lot more about gender policies to which my son was still clueless. He didn’t reply but I think the idea is rubbing on him already.

Okay, I must admit I’m partly to blame. I have one girl and you know how fun it is to dress ‘em up. Boys are the typical shorts, pants, shirt routine opposed to girls’ dresses, skirt, blouses and don’t forget hair accessories. Most of us moms with girls could also be guilty of the ‘princess pampering’ stage, are we not? Princesses as the stories tell are supposed to be treated well, they dress well except of course when they were still the ‘rag girl.’ It so happened that pink is almost (perhaps) synonymous to ‘princess’ or ‘barbie.’ Whatever dictated the trend for pink=girls:blue=boys, we see it too effective. Go to the mall or other mass retail store and you’ll see them stacked, this side pink, that side blue, perhaps a very little section for NOT gendered. So what can you gift a friend (who didn’t want to know what her baby’s gender is) during the baby shower? Tradition dictates yellow and pale-green are the top choices, I always heard friends say, ‘it’s safe.’

(More soon.)

My brother is getting married soon and I am one of those excited about it though I know how much preparation this occasion requires. I wouldn’t be able to help them with the invitation designs, flower arrangements, making of souvenirs or save the date cards, not even with the pre-nuptial photos! ;-) There are now those experienced wedding planners who do everything as a package! Reception, food, music, even wedding dresses and all that..I think what needs to be done is for the bride and groom plus the guests to show up and Voila!
