More and more women are wearing hair extensions to add length and volume to their hairstyles. Several of today’s extensions are available in clip-in styles, making them easy to wear. Since these extensions are an investment, it is important to take proper care of them.

Wash Your Extensions

One of the best things you can do to care for your extensions is to wash them. Clip in hair can get extremely dirty after several uses. Although you do not need to wash the pieces each night, you should keep them clean. It is easy to wash them in the sink with shampoo. After rinsing the shampoo out, you can add conditioner. Then, rinse and lay them flat to dry.

Do Not Blow Dry

You should not use a blow drier with your hair extensions. This can damage them and decrease the lifespan of the product. Instead, try to let them dry naturally. Sometimes you might want to use a blow drier to style your hair. If you plan on doing this, it is important to talk to a hair professional for advice on the best method.

Store Them Properly

Hair extensions need to be stored correctly. They can easily dry out if they are exposed to air. For this reason, it is a good idea to place them in an airtight container when you are not wearing them. You can also keep them in a plastic bag. In addition, make sure the hair is away from sunlight so the color does not change.

Brush Your Extensions

Regular brushing is important to prolong the life of your hair extensions. When you brush them regularly, you eliminate tangles and decrease the likelihood that they will dry out. If you have clip in extensions, it is better to brush them when they are off your head. Brushing them when they are clipped in can cause them to tangle. Also, make sure to use a quality brush and avoid pulling too hard on the hair.

Use a Heat Protector

When you are styling the hair, make sure to use a heat protector. This is particularly important if you are wearing human hair extensions. Tools like a curling iron or flat iron can cause damage to the hair, and a heat protector can minimize this damage. This way, the lifespan of your extensions will increase so you can always look your best.

Typically, people purchase extensions based on their budget. However, it is often better to invest in quality so that the product lasts longer. You will usually get what you pay for – especially if you take care of them.

They say that your hair is your crowning glory.  Even if you had the most awesome Harvey Nichols top on, you wouldn’t look as stunning if you hair resembled that of a hedgehog.  Lovely locks pretty much dictate whether or not you look good or are better off locking yourself up in your house for the entire day.

But for one reason or another, we sometimes have no time to have our hair done at a salon, or would like to quickly change our hairstyle without having to get stuck with a lousy perm.  In this case, wigs or hair extensions are the solution.

The Textured Coif

Curly-haired ladies can stop fighting with their unruly curls with this great updo. Summer humidity can truly cause chaos to curly hair, but with several bobby pins you can put everything up or do hair plaits down at the back of your neck. A bit of hair spray will keep them in place giving you an elegant coif to compliment your curls.

The Undone Bun

With little effort, women can just gather their hair up, pull it back and pin it right in a high bun. A great summer updo that fits every hair type and face shape – the undone bun. All you need to polish the look is to take some well-placed strands and let them hang down in a messy yet chic kind of way around your face.  The perfect updo after a day at the beach and for a fancy dinner out!

The Ballerina Bun

For girls with long straight hair, a great option to look really cool this summer is to create a ballerina bun. Start with some anti-frizz straightening serum to prep your hair, then gather them all up high at the back of your head and twist into a bun. To really rock this look, spray your bun with some hairspray to keep it flat at the top and eliminate the frizz. A perfectly placed ballerina bun shows of the elegant lines of your neck and your beautiful face.

The Classic Ponytail

One classic fallback that can give both curly-haired and straight-haired women a cool summer yet simple updo is the ponytail. A low ponytail can be elegant with your hair cascading down the side of your shoulders. On the other hand, a higher pulled up ponytail draws focus on a nice pair or earring or a necklace. Some twists to the ponytail include the side-swept bangs and clipping the bangs for a poof on top of the head.

Best Hair Straighteners

Posted by on Apr 16, 2012 in Haircare | 0 comments

I’m one of those gifted with hair that’s so straight and black that I’ve never had to use a hair straightener, ever! Though I use a hairdryer to add some volume. They say that that the hair is one’s crowning glory. Call it vain or simply wanting to look good but not all women are created equal and not all hair were made equal! So for those who have flat hair like me, we’d want them to have a little volume or perhaps some wave or curls but to those with wavy and volume-y hair, they’d want to have straight hair even for a day or two. This is why many sought the best hair straighteners or iron to achieve a look that they long wanted to have.

To get the best out of your hair iron consider the following tips on which and how to buy one and more.

1. For big or thick hair use those with larger plates.

2. Determine what kind of look you want to have and from there choose which iron will best give you results. There are those that can give different finishes which may be useful if you want different looks at any given time.

3. Know your budget and choose which one you could go for, less cost doesn’t really mean less quality.

4. Buy accessories for your iron like heat-proof mat and travel pouch to make it easier for you and help you avoid getting scalded and to make your iron’s life longer.

5. Ask around or look for reviews, users are the best source of experience so don’t discount what they have to say.

6. Use your iron sparingly. Your hair can be as itself on certain days, it’s not always good if you heat it up all the time. Just like in many other things. Moderation is key.
