(Hibiscus schizopetalus)
(Sentosa, Singapore 06-09)
When we were kids, we used to play with this flower, no, that would be the leaves actually. We would make soapy stuff from them and add a little powder detergent to make bubbles!
I only knew that they are from the hibiscus family (gumamela as we call them) now, I have learned that the most common names would be Japanese Lantern, Coral Hibiscus and Fringed Rosemallow.
Since we visited the Butterfly garden, butterflies thrive along with the flowers.

Yes, we played with them and make them soapy! 😛
This is a very unique hibiscus, and actually my first to see this hanging sepals (?) , don’t know if its the right part of this flower.
Wonderful look to that flower, very interesting, love your butterfly. I can’t wait for them to come back up North.
Very interesting flower. I’ve never seen one like this. I just started growing hibiscus but living in Upper Michigan I had to plant the “hardy” types.
thanks for letting me know this is hibiscus too. i saw this in sentosa and always wondered what it is.
Another new form of hibiscus! Well, new to me, anyway! It is wonderful! I have never seen a flower with the business parts hanging so far below the petals!!
It is a lovely Hibiscus and is new to me also. Wonderful shot of the butterfly.
That’s a beautiful flower and a fantastic shot of the butterfly too.
