Cats are clean, yes they self-clean themselves most of the day but it doesn’t mean you don’t have to tidy up. It would seem difficult to keep the home clean when you have cats, 3 at that. Aside from shedding fur, there would also be the problem of cat sand being strewn around. With or without cats though, keeping the home clean is something moms, as home keepers (being one of the many roles) do every day.
Unless your house or flat is new, it’s easy to maintain it along with the cats going about their businesses. For us, who have been living in our home for 17 years now, it is a different story. But it’s doable. Here are some of the foolproof ways you can do to keep the home clean with cats as pets.

Invest in a Robot Cleaner and/or a Handheld Vacuum
Whether you have solid wood flooring, parquet, engineered wood, or vinyl for floors, it’s worth investing in an automatic cleaning robot that would clean the floors of dust, cat sand, and fur. A robot cleaner may cost much, but it does the job especially when you have other things to do. Simply turn it on, and let the app go around its map to gather dust and fur even under the sofa. Robot cleaners are gentle enough to not scratch your wood flooring, its mechanism makes it for cleaning effectively but lightly.
You can also use a regular vacuum cleaner with a floor-brush attachment. It would be heartbreaking to scratch your wood floors accidentally. So often, a mopping would be the best when cleaning solid wood flooring. Microfiber-head mops are gentle and does a really good job. It traps dust and grime and is as gentle when swooshing your floor.
A routine wood floor cleaning is a must, but deep cleaning will also benefit the whole of the home in the long run. At those times, use a cleaning agent recommended for your floor type. Make sure that the mop is not dripping wet but just damp. In the instance of excess water on the floor, make sure that you dry it up soon enough to avoid damaging the floor surface.
Dust off AMAP
If a robot cleaner is not within your budget, dusting off as much as you can is a good trick. Yes, having cats mean spending more time to cleaning, but it’s worth all your efforts. Aside from the usual and routine cleaning, deep cleaning should be a part of your monthly schedule.
Get a microfibre duster to make cleaning easier. If there’s accidental cat vomit, clean it up immediately to avoid stains.
Smart litter box
There are a lot of great littler boxes out there, but it doesn’t change the fact that cat sand would be flying away when a cat finished its business. Put a number of litter boxes around the house, it’s 1 litter box per cat plus another one as an extra.
Often, we are told cats’ litter boxes should be in the open to disperse odor easily. I find that litter boxes with top entries are good, and the ones I made which are in IKEA cabinets contain sand good enough. include grids or sand-trapping mats to minimize sand strewn around.
Clean the litter boxes as often as you can, cats don’t like them dirty the same way as humans doesn’t use dirty toilets. I find that one of our cats hate it, he would pee beside the litter box instead if it’s dirty for him (which is sometimes only pee in it).
Groom them Kitties
Brushing kitties minimizes the shedding of htie hair. Brushing makes cats’coats shiny, especially ones with long hair. Brushing removes dead fur and makes them lick less, thus, reduces the chances of vomitting hairballs.
If you can, bring them to a professional groomer at some point, not just for their fur but for their nails as well.
Get Lint rollers to Keep the Home Clean When you Have Cats
Lint rollers are your bestfriends when it comes to cleaning your clothes. It’s also good for hard-to-reach edges of the bedsheets, and whatever the cat fancies to roll onto. Having a lint roller at home and in your bag is a must, it’s the quick, easy way to pick up your furbabies’ hair where they aren’t wanted.
While rugs add warm and beauty to the home, we recommend to have them removed when you have cats. Carpets and rugs are haven for dusts and fur, and it’s also not easy to clean when your cats choose to run to it when they need to vomit out cat hair. ^_^
Having cats at home may mean spending more time to truly keep the home clean than the usual, but hey, what greater gift is there than the love of a cat?”
I have dogs and they really create such a mess every day with their hair. Don’t get me wrong they are totally worth it but I have thought about shaving them on occasion. lol I never thought about how cats can do the same thing, especially the long haired ones, I feel you on that struggle for sure!
We thought of getting dogs at first, but the time we need to take them out for walks and runs is not ideal in our situation now…
These are great tips for keeping a home clean with a lot of cats. I like using a lint roller for picking up pet hair. It’s a smart solution to a common problem. My friend has three cats so I’ll share this post with her.
You gave few, but so important tips. I think cats are very easy to live with. But it is so important to respect these main rules so everyone will be happy.
What beautiful cats! And yep we did all of the above – except in our new home (a few years back now) for the litter box – I had seen a friend’s litter box area was built and attached to her outside wall and had a little kitty door directly into it – that would be ideal
That’s a good idea too, just that we have quite thick walls for the winter 😀 but I would love such!
Long-haired cats are pretty but you’re totally right – so hard to keep up after in terms of cleaning. You bring up really good cleaning tips. I also once heard that a pumice stone and water can help scrape fur off of your sofa easily.
I don’t have a cat but my dog shed a lot, especially during the change of seasons! I always have a lint roller with me, in the house, in the car, at work…lol!
Very handy, those lint rollers! 😀
A lint roller is one of the most functional and useful gifts to give to cat owners. Cat brushes vary in size and shape as well depending on the type of the cat. Long haired cats look cute but are also sometimes more difficult to groom.
