Claude-Michel Schönberg’s award-winning musical based on the novel by Victor Hugo is set to be seen on the big screen soon. Les Misérables, the third longest running Broadway show, is scheduled to be released in December this year.
The film stars Anne Hathaway as Fantine who also sang “I Dreamed a Dream” in this trailer. Fantine is the a struggling factory worker and mother of her illegitimate child, Cosette, she is eventually forced to turn to prostitution. Hugh Jackman plays Jean Valjean, once a prisoner pursued by Inspector Javert, a dedicated policeman played by Russell Crowe. Other stars in the roster are Eddie Redmayne (Marius Pontmercy), Amanda Seyfried (Cosette), Sacha Baron Cohen (Thénardier), Helena Bonham Carter Madame (Thénardier), Samantha Barks (Éponine) and Aaron Tveit (Enjolras).
This is a big undertaking considering the success of the musical, the book behind its story and performances that brought Le Mis to where it is in history now. But let’s keep our hopes up. ^_^
I can’t wait to see this movie. I read Les Miserables and it’s beautiful.
