While many people consider 3D television sets a virtual flop, still a great number of people are optimistic about it. After all, it’s not every day that you get to watch images on your TV screen “come to life” right before your very eyes. Some would even agree that 3D technology is the mother of all optical illusions, going all out in its efforts to mimic reality. Just think, a 3D TV can actually trick your brain into thinking that the images on display on the screen have depth when in reality, these don’t.
It’s not surprising, then, that many still dream of owning one. Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp, Sony, and LG are just some of the famous brands that have joined the bandwagon and have started manufacturing 3D plasma TVs, clearly the top of the line.

So are you ready to buy one for your home? It does seem like the best thing to do especially if you’re adventurous when it comes to your TV-viewing experience. However, before you go out to buy a set or two, you might want to consider these useful tips:
1. Unlike traditional TV sets, you will get the ultimate viewing pleasure if you place your 3D TV in a dark room. The darker the room, the better you would appreciate the “almost live” images from your TV. If there are windows in the room, make sure you have heavy curtains on the ready for when you’re doing some daytime viewing.
2. Take measurements to make sure TV would fit into the spot you have chosen. There should be at least a 1 to 2-inch space on either side of the TV set and enough legroom at the back not only to allow for ventilation but also to accommodate audio and video connections.
3. Make sure there’s adequate space between you and the TV. For 3D TVs measuring 30-50 inches, there should be at least 8 feet of space in between. For larger TV sets, a good 10 feet of space would do.
4. Currently, there are three types of 3D TVs out in the market – LCD, DLP, and Plasma. It would do you well to know the differences between the three before deciding which one to buy. Digital Light Processing or DLP usually offers the biggest screen size for the most affordable prize. Some sets even measure up to 92 inches. Nevertheless, since a DLP is a projection set, it’s much bulkier than Plasmas and LCDs. It’s also notorious for the “rainbow effect”. If you choose an LCD, make sure you have it tested since not all LCD TVs display 3D images the same way. Plasma 3D TVs, on the other hand, has better motion response than LCD and better natural black levels and contrast, both of which can provide a better 3D viewing experience.
5. You need to choose the type of 3D glass you would get for your TV, too. There are two types: passive polarized glasses and active shutter glasses.
Aside from the five tips mentioned above, you need to consider the settings in order to get the best 3D TV viewing results. In addition, you could get the most out of your viewing experience if you have 3D-compatible home theatre. Finally, decide on the best source of content such as 3D-enabled Blu-ray Disc player, HD-Cable, or HD-Satellite Box.
By following these simple tips, you’re sure to enjoy watching 3D movies and shows on your awesome TV with the whole family.
