December 3 marked the first day of snow in Vienna for this year, a year which was spent a lot inside homes. And a lot of people are still on hide out in their homes for the winter, which is all for the best. But truth be told, there is a lot of fun to be had in the snow – on normal circumstances. Getting outside in the fresh air is just as important as it is during any time of year. As long as you dress your family for the cold weather, put on your mask, and be extra careful, there is no reason why you and your family should not enjoy what the winter has to offer.
The following are a few ideas for you and your family to get out and enjoy winter together (with lots of precautions).

Scenic Drive
A lot of people spend a lot of hours on the road during the fall months, as they enjoy the changing colors of the leaves (others enjoy fall cleaning though). Taking a scenic drive in the winter can also be fun. Whether you are close to the mountains or the forest does not matter; you will find the scenery beautiful when it is covered in snow. You can even drive to Paris to see it all in white. Here’s some photos to inspire you.
Of course, for some added pleasure, you and your family can visit an area that will allow you to get out and experience the scenery on foot. Just be sure to wear the appropriate gear for a hike in the snow.
Skiing and Slope Adventure
Even if you have never been on skis your life, packing up the family for a skiing adventure can be a great experience for everyone. Travel with the kids to the nearest ski area if you don’t want to go overseas. Most ski resorts will have lessons available, but if you prefer, you can hang out in the lodge in front of a cozy fire and still have a lot of fun with the family. Regardless of your children’s ages, you can be sure they will appreciate this kind of winter activity.
There are also other activities in a ski resort that doesn’t require a lot of forehand skills. Riding a sled is fun, if you don’t dare learn riding a snowboard, or skiing. There could also be thermal spas to relax in, which will be good for your skin and overall health. So don’t hesitate to go and try.
Sleigh Ride
Families who love a new adventure often forget this old-fashioned method of travelling. A sleigh ride in the winter is one of the best family activities for all ages. Riding a horse drawn sleigh, you and your family can enjoy the sites and scenery around and get some fresh air. Many of the sleigh rides will also serve refreshments to their riders, but you may want to bring along your own blanket so you and your family can be cozy during your ride.
Bonfire Fun
Every summer, most families host or attend barbecues and outdoor parties. Why not have one in the winter? Building a bonfire can help everyone stay warm and you could even bring the barbecue for a warm dinner to serve. Setting up your bonfire around a pond or lake with the theme of a skating party would leave everyone with a great experience and memories of winter that will never be forgotten.
Snow Fun
No matter how old you are, you should appreciate the creativity that goes into a well-built snow fort or snowman. Days that have been cancelled due to a snowstorm is the best time to hold this event for your family. Have a contest for whoever builds the best one and use old clothing to dress up the snow people. The key is to let your imagination come out in the snow and you can be sure that your children will never forget it.
What you see above are just a couple of things that you can do with your family in the winter. No matter what your age is or how big your family is, you will find that all of these adventures will keep everyone hyped and happy.
